My week through Instagram #1

Who else is completely hooked on Instagram? Since I've finally upgraded from a crappy Blackberry I've been going a bit crazy uploading pictures. Are you on Instagram? My username is stephsayshello if you want to follow me!

From Left to right:

♥  Crepes! Amazing Nutella crepes are back in my life & The German Christmas Market is back in Leeds! It's tiny, over priced, crazy busy & the stalls are the same each year but I LOVE IT.  Nothing fails to get me feeling more festive than the Christmas Market. Plus they have a giant sing moose head.

♥ A stall selling giant German Lebkuchen biscuits.

♥ The super fast carousel - Maybe I'm just a wuss, but FYI - not the best thing after a belly full of crepes & beer.

♥ Sweetie stall! This place sells the most massive candy cables EVER. Totally stocking up when I go again.

♥ Leeds looking rather lovely and festive.

♥ An evening filled with packing up my new greetings cards (and those black stickers on each one? All cut by hand.. Worst. Idea. Ever) This is my only plug, you can buy them in my Etsy & my Folksy

♥ Plus a little treat to myself.. My favorite Christmassy Yankee Candle. I'm on the hunt for new Festive scents.. Any recommendations? What are you favourite scented candles?

Have a lovely weekend!

Day Trippin' to York

My favourite season, Autumn, is finally well and truly here! So I decided to wrap up, ignore the typically Yorkshire weather, kick my anxiety in the arse (another post for another day) and the boyfriend and I headed to lovely York for the day. I thought I'd share a few of my favourite pictures! If you don't know, York is a beautiful, walled city in North Yorkshire, full of one off shops, cobbled streets, pretty awesome museums & the Shambles (the loveliest shopping street EVER)

Something I love about York is the mixture of old and new that work so well together. Plus it's a total must for anyone who loves hand painted signage and typography.

York Cocoa House, this place is an absolute chocolate lovers dream. An amazing cafe & shop, It also runs chocolate tasting classes, birthday parties & hen do's. I think I'd just settle on living there?!

SO many bikes everywhere in York! Makes for a happy Steph (I love bicycle pictures!)
More great signage for The Evil Eye Lounge.

This is my absolute favourite painted signage in York, plus it's a shop too, selling the most gorgeous Steiff Teddy Bears. Well worth a visit if you're nearby (ppst, they do a mean cinnamon teacake)

A view of York Minister from the main road. You can climb to the top of one of the towers of the minister which has some of the best views over Yorkshire. Not for the faint hearted though.. There's lots of tight spiral staircase to navigate.. Not the best for someone who loves heights but suffers from some weird kind of spiral staircase-induced vertigo!

Where are your favourite places to go? My check list usually has to include; Tea rooms, a Fudge or Sweet Shop & plenty of vintage shops to poke around in.

The Land of Nod

Hello everyone! I hope you're all enjoying Autumn / Fall.  I think it might just be my favourite season. I am know that I start possibly 96% of my blog posts in this way.. but I REALLY am trying to get into blogging more. I feel like I have lots to chat to you guys about, but I have no idea how to go about putting it all down into one blog post. Do you have any tips? I think I just sound like I'm babbling away..

Anyway - onto what I wanted to post about. Now, I'm fully aware that in my life I'm at least maybe, a year behind everybody else in, well, everything. So if you're reading this and thinking "Dude, srsly?" Then I'm sorry. BUT YOU GUYS. THE LAND OF NOD! I just recently discovered it, and I may have fallen completely, hopelessly, palms sweaty, heart racing-ly in love with this online shop. Have you had a look through the site before? The Land of Nod is an online boutique selling lots of lovely things for kids and babies (although really most adults, lets be honest) They stock carefully sourced products from independent designers, crafters and illustrators - such a refreshing change from mass produced stuff that you can find anywhere. I've already spotted a couple of my favourite illustrators with work on there; Allison Cole & Michelle Romo of Crowded Teeth.

Here are a few of my personal autumn favourites. I'll post some links to the individual items at the bottom of the post.

Which online shops are you favourites? My other current favourites are Fred Flare & Me & Zena

P.S. Images taken from the The Land of Nod website. The photographs are not mine, only the added textures / text etc.

P.P.S. This isn't a sponsored post.. I do just really love that shop.

2. Hangin' Around Woodgrain Pendant Lighting
3. Keep it Together Wall Hook
4. Clip it Good Desk Lamp
5. Hedgehog on Forest Time Wall Clock

Pablove One Another Group Show

A couple of months ago a was emailed by the lovely Courtney Regli (of the TokyoBunnie blog & Bored Inc) asking if I'd like to donate a piece of work to the Pablove One Another group show - Seen as all proceeds from the art sales go to the Pablove Foundation (they fund pediatric cancer research) it was a definite yes from me. Check out the great work the charity do here.

Seen as I love across the pond I can't go see the show but if you are in the LA area you should really go check the show out at Leanna Lin's Wonderland. Opening night is September 8th from 6 through to 10!

I'm so flattered to be asked asked to participate in such an awesome show with amazing artists, I mean I'm next door but one to Team Kitten on the flyer! I'm gunna stop fan-girling now, sorry. Check out a little sneak peek of some of the artists work below though:

I'm loving Gemma Correll's piece, I wish I could snap that up (second row down, 2nd from the left)

This is my piece for the show! I'm trying to work on a different style of
digital colouring. I'd love to know your thoughts on it :)

Gems: Typography

I am a complete typography fanatic. Its something I wish I was better at (as well as drawing faces, saving money and perfecting the perfect hair quiff) I practice almost daily. It features heavily in most of my illustrations. I've been finding the current trends in typography fascinating - we've really come full circle in design are embracing some really delicious retro / vintage typography - which is totally fine with me.

So, I thought I would share a few of my newest favourites with you. I haven't been able to find the original creators of some of these pieces, if you know any of the ones I've missed please let me know and I'll credit them. Click on the images to take you to their websites.

I hope you've had a great weekend!

Friday Favourites

I've been really getting into Etsy recently. I've had an Etsy shop for a couple of years now, but (rather stupidly) never made much of it. So these last couple of weeks I've been completely sucked in! I never really realised how much there was to selling on Etsy. It seems making your shop stand out is a full time job in itself!
I'm 100% addicted to making treasuries - I thought I might try and make this a weekly thing - there really are some treasures to be found! Here are a few of my favourites from this week:

My First Book Cover!

Eee. I am really excited to finally be able to share one of my new commissions with you (I say new, it feels like years ago that I finally finished this piece!) The really lovely folks from Pan Macmillan got in  touch before Christmas wanting me to create a front and back cover illustration for Hayley Long's newest book! Ace! I got sent this copy last week, and I've got the go ahead to blog the crap out of it! YES! The book is out in June, go check it out!

My original artwork. The colours have changed a couple of times
& as much as I tend to shy away from neon, I really love how
bright they've gone with the colours.
